A Simple and Sophisticated Sun Room Addition

This family needed a little extra interior space in their Black Mountain vacation home. We enclosed their existing screened-in porch to create a charming four-season room. The perfect place to sit and sip coffee in the morning or get cozy in front of the fire during a cold winter night!

After framing the exterior walls, we installed nine large windows to capture the beautiful sunlight. We moved the original exterior door to its new location and cased in the opening. The flooring was a bit of a puzzle to figure out. The floor that existed in the original interior could not be replicated, so the floor installer worked some magic by weaving in the new floor. In addition, we found the existing concrete pad in the screened-in porch was very uneven, so we gladly leveled these.

Following the floor and the window was installed, we finished the new interior space with drywall, trim, paint, and lighting. We extended the masonry around the fireplace to the ceiling in the existing living room. The floor-to-ceiling stonework gave the fireplace a much more dramatic and grand feel.

To finish off this four-season room addition, we matched the board and batten smart siding to the rest of the existing house. You can’t even tell this was an addition but, the impact it had on this family was substantial.
